Which Type of Leather Do We Use

This is a excellent question as there are a number of different quality leathers available online however there is one that stands out from the rest in the manufacturing of leather belts.

We will only use full grain leather hides in all leather belts. Full grain tops the list for quality and below we have listed them in order:

Full Grain Leather:

Made from the top layer of the hide, which is the strongest and most durable part.
Has a natural and unique texture with imperfections such as scars and marks.
Develops a patina over time, which adds to its character and beauty.
More expensive than other types of leather due to its high quality and durability.
Used in high-end products such as luxury bags, shoes, and furniture.

Top Grain Leather:

Made from the second layer of the hide, which is sanded and buffed to remove any imperfections.
Has a more uniform and consistent texture than full grain leather.
Retains some of the natural grain pattern, but is less durable than full grain leather.
More affordable than full grain leather but still of good quality.

Genuine Leather:

Made from the lower layers of the hide that are left over after the top layers have been used for full grain and top grain leather.
Has a uniform texture and lacks the natural grain pattern of full and top grain leather.

More affordable than full grain and top grain leather.

Bonded / Split Leather:

Made from the leftover scraps of leather that are ground up and mixed with a bonding agent.
Has a uniform and artificial-looking texture that lacks the natural beauty of full and top grain leather.
Least expensive type of leather.
Least durable type of leather.
Used in low-end products such as furniture, shoes, and wallets.

As you will see the best quality is in fact full grain which is above top grain which some people think is strange due to the name.
